You were born for such a time as this…

Why Am I Always Amazed?

“I thank my God every time I remember you in my prayers.”  Philemon 1:4

Stuff happens in my life that just takes my breath away! Does that ever happen to you? When something takes place and you KNOW it is the Holy Spirit working?

I always ask “Why am I amazed?” I don’t know why I am ALWAYS taken by surprise when I see Him work in my life over and over again!

In particular lately, I have watched as He has put person after person in my life, “for such a time as this”… Someone will cross my path with the perfect words for that very moment. The perfect encouragement, maybe even a smile or a hug at the very right time. I KNOW these moments are from God to me, but I’m not sure the people know they are doing God’s work. A smile or a hug can be a very simple, normal thing for someone to readily do. But, with Jesus in the gap, theses gestures come from heaven. I don't know why I am ALWAYS taken by surprise when I see HIm work in my life over and over again!… Click To Tweet

Is this making sense to you? To be clear, YOU may not know how your smile or encouraging words are received. Jesus does, though! The Holy Spirit is working through you to glorify God.

So… encourage someone today with your smile, a hug or maybe even words. I may be on the receiving end today and tomorrow it may be you that receives encouragement from someone else. I hope you recognize the Holy Spirit working in that moment and say, “Why am I amazed?”

I’ve written before about all of the women in my life who have influenced and encouraged me. Women who have been wonderful role models for me. I tried to list them all and fell terribly short. Names still come to me that should be on the list. The amazing part is that HE continues to add to the list daily!

I have met some wonderful, Godly women lately…by chance? No, I don’t think so! But still I ask “Why am I amazed, ” when yet another woman is added to my list.

This journal entry will be the 2nd in a series. I’ve never attempted a “series” before but I thought it would be fun to use the same theme of faces differently on each reference to the verse, “I thank my God every time I think of you.”

I did this journal entry while on a retreat. I did not want to use water based supplies, so I took my Premier Prismacolor Colored Pencils, a sharp pencil to trace, an eraser and a pencil sharpener. I had previously printed my face design which was already tucked in my Bible.

When I had some free time I traced the face design into the margin of Philemon 1:3. I had a lot of fun drawing and adding details to these faces. I know who they represent and why…

I added some more details at home when I had a black sharpie available. Colored pencils are great, but are very soft so it’s hard to get a sharp line for details. I also highlighted the verse with a light flesh color.

I encourage you to watch for how the Holy Spirit is working in your life. It may be through encouragement from a friend or a stranger. YOU may be the encouragement for someone else.

Whatever the case, be AMAZED at how you see HIM working in your life!
