How often do you need encouragement to keep going on a task? I assume it is pretty regularly, right?
I know that when I start a new project I am excited and have the best intentions of finishing strong. I may get about half way into it and then stall if I don’t have the encouragement I need to support my enthusiasm! I have found that journaling during my daily devotion is an amazing quiet time with God, but I also have enjoyed getting together with a journaling group to share ideas and insights into scripture. Not only can you share supplies and techniques, you will grow together as a group sharing life together. We all need a little encouragement to support our enthusiasm. Click To Tweet
When I first discovered Bible Art Journaling, I wanted to share my new found love of this idea with friends, but I was sure no one would be interested. I mentioned it to my neighbor one day, showed her my Bible and I could see her excitement immediately! Ok, I thought, at least there will be a group of two. I then took my Bible to church to show some friends and was amazed at the immediate interest! We chose a date to meet and the group was formed! Before our first meeting I was so surprised when I kept getting messages like “Can I bring a friend?” or “Can I bring 2 friends?” The answer of course was “Yes.”
We finally met together and the group was an instant success! Over and over again I heard comments like, “I really don’t like Bible study, but now I understand these scriptures in a whole new way!” or “I haven’t been in a Bible study in years, but I will definitely be back!”
From the art point of view, it is also a lot of fun to share ideas about techniques and supplies. There are so many new products on the market that are fun to incorporate into your journaling, but don’t go and buy a lot of stuff first. It is nice to be able to share supplies like colored pencils and markers with your friends. Try before you buy! You will soon discover your favorite supplies and probably want to buy your own.
Support and encouragement are so important in our Christian walk. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” This blog was created to be a supportive group for art journaling enthusiasts. Not only for encouragement to get a journaling page finished, but for walking along side a friend during a tough time or celebrating an exciting moment! I encourage you to join a group or start one yourself. Support one another in life and journaling, no matter what method you choose. You will be blessed and I am sure that the other members of the group will be too.
To start a group, gather friends and set a date and time. Have everyone bring their own supplies and share yours.
I begin with prayer and a very short devotion planned for this specific purpose. Something with a visual aspect that brings a picture to mind. An example is Psalm 28:7, ‘The Lord is my strength and my shield; in Him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to Him.”
I would talk about how, as I trust in Jesus, he protects me. I take comfort in visualizing Jesus as a shield against the evil one. He IS my strength and my shield and I give thanks to Him!”
I like to keep the devotion very simple, maybe have a little discussion around the verse and then begin journaling.
I hope you find encouragement this week in your journaling and life. Blessings!
